Aquatics and Safety consists of 15 well-trained student lifeguards and Julie Saldiva, the Assistant Director. Saldiva is from Lake Jackson; she received her bachelor’s in recreation administration from Texas State University in 2003. Saldiva continued her education with the University of New Hampshire where she received her masters in recreation management and policy.
The 15 students who make up the Aquatics and Safety staff are all American Red Cross certified in a number of categories. Their certifications include but are not limited to: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Administration, First Aid, Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor and Waterfront Lifeguard. The team is a close knit group who all care for each other, love water and are passionate about saving lives. The program offers access to an Aqua Sports Center, and the Recreation Center Natatorium, in addition to swim lessons, American Red Cross classes and free stroke/water safety clinics. The Aquatics and Safety Department is dedicated to increasing safety in the water. Individuals who choose to partake in the program will learn key skills that will ultimately improve their safety and swimming capabilities.
